The beauty of Britain’s Railways, Canals and period road Vehicles.

Canals

Inspired by the Jane Powell Art Studio in 2000, where Kevin worked as a Resident Artist. He soon discovered some of Britain's beautiful, timeless canal network and what has been a joy and delight for him to experience. He found a feeling of peace, tranquility and sheer beauty in their countryside settings as he walked along the canal towpaths with the occasional interruption of heavenly birdsong and the engine noise of a passing narrowboat. The natural world casting its reflections in the water was something to behold along with the slow pace of life enjoyed by the narrowboat owners whom many he has had the pleasure to speak to over time. Kevin has tried to recapture some of his magical experiences below on the canvas. Open edition giclee prints (size 16in x 12in) are available to purchase on each image. Railways, Canals and Road Vehicles

While exploring the Canal Network in the Midlands on foot, Kevin often walked under bridges carrying trains over the Canals. He realised these were attractive settings and would make a good composition for a painting, often creating a period scene during the heyday of Steam Railways.

Romance of Steam

Kevin fell in love with Steam Railways after hearing Reginald Gardner's audio recording entitled TRAINS, played on Children's Favourites on Saturday mornings during his childhood in the 1960s. What he heard was Reginald mimicking what Kevin would describe as "a living thing", He later went to see these living things in the flesh at Saltley Engine Sheds in East Birmingham with a school friend whose father was an engine driver. What struck him was how looking at a steam locomotive fully in steam was like a living thing . The elements of the earth captured in a magnificent piece of mechanical engineering. ie. Earth, Fire, Air and Water., in a setting of Light, Darkness and Spirit These are the elements he has tried to capture in his compositions below.

Steam Locomotives in monochrome oils.

Kevin fell in love with Steam Locomotives from an early age, especially with the larger Pacific type locomotives. They have a grace and grandeur and a beauty of their own exemplified by the external motion of their valve gear, connecting rods and driving wheels and are like a living thing with all the steam and smoke. Kevin Alun Parrish GRA Original oil painting is for sale as indicated. Giclee prints are available on all images. Contact the Artist
