Oil painter Kevin Alun Parrish

Welcome to my world of fine art sometimes seen through my minds eye expressing my ideas and visions onto the artists canvas in oil paints.
I am a traditional freehand oil painter and encapsulate many different genre, sometimes venturing into fantasy and surreal composition, but always with an element of atmosphere and realism.
I have several interests and on my website I have been inspired to explore many genre including road transport, railways, canals, portrait montages, local scenes, international scenes, celestial scenes, science fiction, sporting greats, the natural world, famous musicians and philosophers, comedy, film and TV stars and animal portraits
Many are portrayed with a hint of nostalgia.

Over the years many art lovers have said to me.

“I feel as though I could be there as part of your painting as it looks so atmospheric.”

It is humbling to know this because that has always been my aim as a visual artist.

KEVIN WITH HIS PAINTING A CORONATION IN LEAMINGTON SPA (CITY OF BIRMINGHAM NO 46235)

Artist and Philosopher

My oil painting A Coronation in Leamington Spa portrays the magnificent looking City Of Birmingham locomotive no 46235 simmering in Leamington Spa station at night.
A fantasy painting in oils created by me, the artist, a born brummie.
The reality is the steam locomotive remains forgotten in the Birmingham Science Museum at Millennium Point in Digbeth, Birmingham.
I believe the locomotive should be moved from her home in the museum and put into steam, pulling trains on preserved railway lines around the UK, where steam enthusiasts can see her and enjoy her power and beauty.

I have been a full time visual artist since 1995 and have been enjoying the experience ever since.
My formative years were spent in Birmingham Warwickshire and have had an interest in painting and drawing from an early age.

During 1995 I attended an art course at my local college which helped me crystallise my visions and ideas still further and how I would approach my new career.
I discovered and felt most at home using oil paints to express myself on the artists canvas and was initially inspired by the prolific artist Terence Cuneo and his railway art which I saw on a model railway catalogue back in the 1970s.

Over the years I have come to appreciate the Old Master painters more and more and they continue to inspire me as an artist.
As a self taught artist I have become more experienced as an oil painter, picking up tips and techniques from art galleries, art publishers and sometimes other artists.
I have since evolved my painting style into working from dark to light and using layers of paint to achieve highlights.
I very often listen to music while painting in my studio.
I find it helps me with the creative process.
My artwork can be found in public and private collections in the UK and overseas.
