What an incredible feat to land two astronauts on the moon and return them safely to the Earth.
That is what happened during July 1969
Surely Mankind’s greatest ever achievement.
I have always been interested in Astronomy from a young age and have studied the moon, the planets and stars through reading books and looking at photographs along with viewing the night sky. I have been to Planetarium shows which is an awesome, visual and educational experience.
I remember watching the Apollo 11 lunar landing on the surface of the moon at 3am in the morning local time.
I stayed up most of the night with my family to witness it.
We listened to the BBC commentary by James Burke and astronomer Patrick Moore.
I used to regularly watch Patrick Moore’s Sky at Night on TV. He had an enthusiasm for Astronomy and in turn he made me feel enthusiastic about the subject too.
I have been to Cape Kennedy Space Centre where Apollo 11 was launched and there I learned more about the incredible historic mission.
This is my tribute to this fantastic achievement.
It was such an exciting time for me from 1969 until 1972 while the Apollo missions were taking place. Apollo 17 was the 11th and final mission to the moon.
Doctor Who story writers were influenced by the moon landings around this time and wrote stories entitled The Moonbase, The Invasion, The Seeds of Death and The Ambassadors of Death.
Why Beauty Matters was a painting inspired by the philosopher Roger Scruton, who narrated a video of the same name which I viewed with interest.
He certainly struck a chord with me and his views on art are quite similar to mine.
The global weather on planet earth has always fascinated me and I like to keep abreast with weather forecasts.
I often watch the weather in the sky above and observe the beauty of sunset's and sunrise's along with cloud formations and the movement of air. No two days are ever the
same with the weather.
This is especially true in the UK where the weather is ever changing and as a result a constant topic of social conversation.
My paintings sometimes have a a celestial feel.
