I always consider it an honour as a visual artist to be commissioned by a member of the public or a client to create a painting to their satisfaction and pleasure.
After what needs to be discussed and fees have been negotiated, I then prepare a sketch by using photographic material the commissioner might have given me.
I often use published photographs found online or photographs taken insitu to help me in the creative process.. I always offer to prepare two sketches to give the commissioner, so he or she can decide what might look best for the look of the final painting.
Once I am happy with the sketch and alternative sketch I then forward them to the commissioner to seek his or her approval on one of them.
When a sketch is approved I then proceed with the final painting.
Occasionally there might be a fairly quick turn around time required by the commissioner, so I need to make sure I have enough time to complete the project.
The image Back to School was commissioned by a member of the Leamington Model Railway Society, who I had met at an exhibition in Stoneleigh earlier.
A few members at my local tennis club have commissioned me to create some art for them over the years.
Always a pleasure to oblige and to have the opportunity to play many members at the tennis club over the years.
